Union Web Services (UWS) exists to promote and further the goals of the labor movement by providing 21st century technologies, techniques, and tactics, including online tools that allow unions to reach their members and other constituents in the most cost-effective and direct manner possible. We do this while offering our workers the benefits of union membership. We constantly seek to improve working conditions for our clients and their members. Ultimately, it is our goal that our tools and services will revitalize the labor movement in the US and beyond. All UWS workers are members of Communications Workers of America, Local 1180.

Once more, the shock, once more the disbelief.


A 117 year old tradition, a rite of Spring, runners from around the world competing in the elite Boston Marathon.


This year it is different. The wheel of violence stops on this annual scene of joy and celebration, marking it with scenes of carnage associated with foreign battlefields, capitals and cities in Europe, or Israel and Palestine, or the ethnic conflict and blood-soaked lands of Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia. Wherever terror has marked and defamed.

Mass Campaign For Our Communities Fights For Higher Taxes (and is Succeeding)

Campaign For Our Communities brings together community groups, municipal organizations, and labor unions to accomplish what seems like an impossible task: convincing Massachusetts' legislators to raise taxes. What is surprising is they are making inroads – through good old fashioned grassroots efforts. While Campaign For Our Communities have been organizing for a while, they recently burst onto the front pages with a massive lobby day and rally led by Governor Deval Patrick. While the Governor and Campaign For Our Communities are pushing wide ranging revenue plans, the Speaker of the House, Robert DeLeo, prefers a more limited plan that focuses on transportation infrastructure first. We sat down to speak with Andi Mullin, Director of Campaign For Our Communities, to find out more, and understand how they plan to achieve their aims.

One of the biggest changes in worker benefits over the last 30 years has been the shift from defined benefit retirement plans (i.e. pensions) to defined contribution retirement plans (IRAs). This shift was sold to workers as a way to give them more control over their finances. Funds that had previously been allocated to company retirement plans would be given directly to employees who could invest the money themselves -  instead of entrusting them to a pension fund manager.
